Second Annual BC V Santa Ride

Photos and report by Ron Ferguson

Thursday December 1st saw members of the BC Chapter V of the Blue knights provide a motorcycle escort for

Santa Claus to the Chilliwack Mall. Members met at the Fraser Valley Traffic Services garage on Airport Road

in Chilliwack at 2:30 on this chilly afternoon.  Neil brown had volunteered to be Santa for this event.

Neil's shiny new Kawasaki Nomad 1600 was duly decorated with candy canes, garlands, Christmas

stockings, bows and a stray reindeer.

At approximately 5:45PM Motor Officers Mike Nelson and Jeff Bodner arrived and led the full police escort

through the streets of Chilliwack and to the Chilliwack, with Ron Ferguson bringing up the tail end

of the motorcade.

The local citizenry was surprised and impressed as they waved at Santa riding behind

sirens and strobe lights.  The group proceeded to the Chilliwack Mall where staff were waiting to open the

large doors for Santa to ride in.  The motorcade was greeted by the Eclipse group of cheerleaders who then

led Santa on a small parade through the mall followed by the throngs of eager children.

Santa then welcomed the children to individually be photographed on his heavily decorated motorcycle with him.

There was, of course a small fee charged for each photo, which resulted in a net profit of $73.00, which

the Blue knights will gladly donate to our favourite charity, the Canadian Cancer Society.

Things slowed down by Mall  closing at 8:00 PM, and the motorcycles were parked at least 15 minutes before the snow

started falling.  It was an  evening to remember.

The management at the Chilliwack Mall have invited the Blue Knights to repeat this event next year.
